When you start a new business nobody knows that you exist. Potential customers have no idea of who you are, where you are and what you offer. Your business is invisible.
New businesses find it tough to attract customers, because people have habits. They will happily use the same hairdresser or printer for years.
When people are shopping around they tend to rely heavily on personal recommendations and referrals.
Of course the big problem for a new business is that if you have not got any customers how can you be recommended.
Also if they are happy with their current supplier what need have they to go elsewhere.
They need a compelling reasons to try something new.
Even businesses with a highly visible shop front can find it difficult as consumers do not always see what is in front of them. When they do take notice of the new restaurant or solicitors that has opened, there can be a reluctance to go in due to shyness and a fear of the unknown.
When launching a new business it is important to have a marketing strategy.
